Shed Seven were a much-maligned band from the Britpop era, but (surprise surprise) I like them. They had some great songs, especially on their last album, Truth Be Told. This came out a few years after they split (although the band has now reformed and is touring) and the songs here probably would've gone on to make up their 5th studio album. This was officially released, but in very small quanitities, making it pretty rare. Good collection of songs, worth a download. Link is my own.

Heavy Stereo - B-Sides and Singles
Another Heavy Stereo post, and unless any live shows surface it'll be the last: if you own this and Deja Voodoo (I posted that a few months back) you own everything the band has ever done, apart from their Jam cover (The Gift) which featured on a Jam tribute album. This is comprised of two non-album singles (Sleep Freak and Smiler), their B-sides and the B-sides to their album singles as well. Got this compilation a while ago but can't remember where from, think it may have been the sadly deceased ABC Afterglow blog. Anyway I made this artwork to accompany it and hosted my own link, so enjoy!

The Seahorses - B-Sides
The Seahorses were formed in the mid-90s by John Squire, after he left the Stone Roses. They recoded two albums, one of which was released and one which wasn't (this was posted here a few months back). They also released four singles; the B-sides from the three released album tracks, as well as the non-album single You Can Talk To Me and its B-sides make up this compilation. Not had a chance to listen to this yet, but I am a big fan of their two albums, so I have high hopes for this unofficial collection (tagged it as a rarity as all the songs were officially released). I knocked this artwork up in a couple of minutes to accompany this download.

Whiteout - Bite It
Whiteout were a Scottish band who formed in the early 90s in Greenock and released two albums; Wikipedia says they split shortly after the release of their second album (which will be posted in future as it is extremely rare) in 1998. The band's only real claim to fame is touring with Oasis just before the latter band became massive; Whiteout started the tour as headlining act but after the first night were demoted to 2nd on the bill, and rightly so! That said, Whiteout were still a good band with some excellent tunes, and this album is actually very good. Their sound is best compared to mid-90s Charlatans, although they have a more laid-back vibe. Highlights from this album include Thirty Eight, No Time and Altogether. This is recommended to fans of the Charlatans' mid 90s work, curious Oasis fans and those who enjoyed The Gyres album posted previously.

The Shining - True Skies
The Shining are known mainly for being a 'Verve offshoot', which I think is a tad unfair as despite containing 2 former members of the Verve they are a good band in their own right. This, their only album, dates from 2002. The best way to describe their sound is Oasis playing The Verve's Urban Hymns. Highlights from this excellent and underrated album include Quicksilver, Young Again, I Wonder How and Crest Of An Ocean, although the whole album is solid. I would go as far as describing this as a lost gem, and as a result it comes recommended, especially to fans of the Verve.
- "Quicksilver" – 3:59
- "Young Again" – 5:12
- "Find a Reason" – 3:41

Johnny Marr And The Healers - Boomslang
The Healers is one of Johnny Marr's many side projects, and one of my favourite things he's ever been involved in (not a fan of The Smiths). This album dates from 2003, and it looked until recently like it was to be the group's only album. However, Johnny Marr recently announced the Healers will be releasing a new album in early 2012, with a new line up. This is part of the reason I decided to post this album, the other being that I hadn't posted any rarities in a while. This is a fairly good album that borrows heavily from Oasis and mid-90s Charlatans, which is a good thing in my book but the album does get a bit samey later on. Highlights include The Last Ride, the excellent Down On The Corner and Long Gone. Recommended to fans of the two bands mentioned above and curious Marr fans. Can't see many Smiths fans liking this though.

The Coral - Locks And Keys
The Coral are a great, underrated band who have been going for over 10 years now. In that time they have released 6 studio albums and, as this collection showcases, recoded a lot more songs. This is made up of various demos, radio sessions and live performances, and must surely collect pretty much everything not commercially available that the band has done. Sound quality varies between songs, is good on demos and radio sessions but some of the live tracks are a bit worse (still very much listenable, though). Highlights of this exhaustive collection include Mirrors Collide, the demo of Pass It On and D'yer Wanna Be A Spaceman?, an Oasis cover. This collection is extremely rare, it's not on any other blogs and only ever seen it once anywhere online, on the excellent Bobjuice forums. This artwork (not made by me) comes included in the download. This is an essential package for any Coral fan, an absolute goldmine of rarities.

The Kinks - The Great Lost Kinks Album
The Kinks are one of my all-time favourite bands, and were active from the 60s through to the 90s. They released pretty much consistently brilliant music until the 80s, with countless classic albums to their name. I'm not entirely sure if this is a bootleg, as I think it has been officially released (albeit in 1973). However, it doesn't seem to be commercially available so I'll happily post it. It's made up of songs that were recorded by the Kinks between 1966 and 1970, including some that were slated for inclusion of Dave Davies' solo album (which unfortunately never materialised). Several of these songs have since turned up on bonus reissues of the Kinks' albums, but many are still unreleased. Not been able to properly listen to this but you can't go wrong with late 60's Kinks, so recommended to everyone.

The Gyres - First
This another rare Britpop gem. The Gyres were formed in the mid-90s in Blantyre, near Glasgow. This is their sole album, and is pretty rare. They were part of the post-Oasis britpop boom, but cruelly never really got off the ground. Their sound is unsurprisingly very Oasis-influenced, but on Falling Down they sound near-identical to the Bluetones. However, this is a very good album and contains some excellent songs, notably Break, Hi-fi Driving and Are You Ready?. Some of the members apparently went on to form a band called Point Blank, but I've never heard or found anything by them. If anyone knows anything about them, please get in touch. This is recommended to fans of Britpop, especially Oasis.

The Diggers - Mount Everest
This great little album is by a 90s band who called the Diggers. They first came to my attention when I saw them on the tracklisting for a Creation Records compilation, and I decided to check them out as I like pretty much every band or artist who were on Creation (with the exception of Mishka). Its a very good and solid collection of songs that leans heavily on The Beatles, and fits in nicely with the Britpop movement of the time (it was released in 1997). Highlights include the opener, Circles, and Nobody's Fool, which would probably appeal to many of Dodgy's fans. Recommended for everyone, a great album.

The Real People - Marshmellow Lane
The Real People are a band from Liverpool, and have been active since the mid-80s. In this time, they have only put out 5 albums, two of them unreleased (this one and another, entitled Closer). On top of this there have been over 100 demos leaked online, most of which I am in possession of and will be posting when I can. Much like Oasis, the only two members who have lasted are two brothers; Tony and Chris Griffiths. The band's claim to fame is, fittingly, helping Oasis on their way early in their career, by letting them record in their studio in Liverpool free of charge. They also apparently laid down guide vocals for some of Oasis' sessions, which resulted in Liam's switch from his 'old' style of singing to the style we heard on Definitely Maybe. This album would have been The Real People's 2nd LP, had it not been cancelled shortly before release in 1992. I would've posted the self-titled debut but it was recently made available on iTunes and therefore is no longer 'rare'. This is a surprisingly long album, and although definitely not the band's strongest work (that would, in my opinion, come a few years later) it has its moments, especially Feel The Pain, Believer and Too Much, Too Young (no, not a cover). Even so, a good album by a criminally underrated band. Would recommend it to to anyone, especially curious Oasis fans. Having said that, their 3rd album (2nd officially released one ) What's On The Outside is probably their best and also the best starting point. Not gonna post that as it is also available on iTunes.

The Action - Uptight And Outasight
The Action were a 60s mod band from London. Not sure they ever released a studio album but there are plenty of compilations, including a 'lost album', available. This 27-song compilation comprises all their original BBC sessions, as well as a reunion gig from 1998 that takes up disc 2. With this many songs it's bound to be patchy, but there are some excellent songs here: I'll Keep On Holding On, Never Ever and Shadows And Reflections all stand out. Most of these are Action originals, as far as I know, and the second disc is bogged down a bit by covers of old blues numbers. If you want to get into the Action this is probably not a very good place to start, but if you're already familiar with them you can do worse than to download this. Recommended to anyone who likes the Mod bands of the 60s or early Small Faces.

Heavy Stereo - Deja Voodoo
Another rarity this time, this one from Gem Archer's old band, Heavy Stereo. They were on Creation Records (which is probably how Noel knew Gem before asking him to join Oasis) and released this one album. Their sound is usually described as glam, but songs like Cartoon Moon and Keep Up would fit on any Britpop compilation. There is an obvious Oasis influence as well. Gem's voice is probably a bit 'Marmite', sounds a bit like an early Liam Gallagher (as can be heard in the previous post) but with more strained vocals. Good consistent collection of songs though; my favourites are Chinese Burn, Cartoon Moon and Shooting Star. They released a couple of singles that weren't on this album as well as about 8 b-sides, I have these on a collection that I will post when I get my laptop fixed. Obviously the band's main claim to fame is Gem joining Oasis and, later, Beady Eye, but apparently the drummer is now in the Jim Jones Revue. Recommended for anyone that is curious or likes both Glam and Britpop (especially Oasis).

The Eyes - The Arrival Of The Eyes
The banner boasts bootlegs and rarities but have only got bootlegs up so far, decided I need to vary it a bit so here goes: The Eyes were a 60's Brit Invasion/ Mod band from London. This collects pretty much everything they ever did (28 songs), including a Rolling Stones cover album from later on in their career under the name The Pupils. However, the best tracks here are easily the four singles they released in 1965 and '66, which are at the start of this collection. These sound pretty similar to early Who; they even have a song called My Degeneration! It becomes a bit samey towards the end and is not the most solid of collections, but most people will find at least something to love here. Link is my own.
