Arctic Monkeys - Top Marks For Not Trying

I had a bit of Arctic Monkeys stuff knocking about that wasn't really worth posting by itself as there was only 5 or so tracks in each collection, so I cobbled them together to form this compilation, similar to the Proud Mary album I made a while back. This and Beneath The Boardwalk cover all the material never officially released up until 2008, although I'm not sure any other songs have surfaced since then anyway. This is made up of the Favourite Worst Nightmare Demos, the songs on the Covers Mixtape that were not officially released, and three other unreleased tracks that have never really been compiled anywhere: Wagon On The Way To The Stripey Tent, Put Me In A Terrorpocket and Sandtrap. All the tracks here are from around the Favourite Worst Nightmare era, hence the band logo used in the artwork I made. Basically, think of this as Beneath the Boardwalk part 2. This is exclusive to the blog, and in my humble opinion very much worth a download to help complete your Arctic Monkeys collection. Link is my own.

Tracks 1,5 and 11 ripped from various Youtube videos.
Tracks 2,4,6,7,8 and 12 from Favourite Worst Nightmare Demos.
Tracks 3,9,10 and 13 from the Covers Mixtape.

Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds - 2011-10-23 - Live At The Olympia, Dublin

This is the first ever gig played by Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds, and as a result is a worthwhile addition to anyone's collection, for the historical significance if nothing else. The 20-song setlist (which has been played at every gig so far) does not disappoint, with a healthy dose of Oasis classics amongst his excellent new songs. There is also a brilliant unreleased song played called Freaky Teeth, although it isn't clear if this will ever be released officially. Until then, this will have to do! This recording is admittedly not the best quality (the best of the three gigs available online is Edinburgh, which will be posted either here or on Pick A Part That's new in future), however as I said it's still worth a download just to say you have it! The gig was originally recorded and put on Youtube by Johnky, although ordahlen converted the audio to MP3 and posted a link, which is how I got hold of it, so credit must go to both of them. The excellent artwork was done by JohNLiaM, although the link here is my own.

Shed Seven - One Hand Clapping: The Unreleased Demos 2001-2003

Shed Seven were a much-maligned band from the Britpop era, but (surprise surprise) I like them. They had some great songs, especially on their last album, Truth Be Told. This came out a few years after they split (although the band has now reformed and is touring) and the songs here probably would've gone on to make up their 5th studio album. This was officially released, but in very small quanitities, making it pretty rare. Good collection of songs, worth a download. Link is my own.

Embrace - 2000-05-29 - Live At The Wulfrun Hall, Wolverhampton

I'm a big fan of Embrace, but live stuff is rarer than rocking horse shit; I only have two gigs, both from 2000. This gig would've been promoting Drawn From Memory, their excellent second album. No clue where I originally got this as had it for a couple of years now. The sound quality here is very good and the setlist is exceptional, although I am biased as I much prefer their earlier stuff. Link and artwork are both my own. This is worth a download as hey, you're not gonna find many other Embrace bootlegs!

The Stone Roses - 1989-06-03 - Live At The Walsall Junction

With the news the Roses are reforming the other day, it'd be rude not to post something by them! So here is another classic 1989 gig, from just before the legendary Empress Ballroom show (which can also be found on this blog). Indeed, some people prefer this show to the Blackpool one. This is quite a well-known boot but I couldn't find it anywhere so had to rip the audio from Birtles20's excellent youtube channel, check it out at http://www.youtube.com/user/Birtles20 Sound quality is excellent and the band are on great form, so this comes recommended. The the link is mine but found the artwork on Google so not sure whose it is, just chopped it down to fit in iTunes.

Stereophonics - 2010-02-20 - Live At The Winter Olympics, Vancouver

Taken a while to get round to posting anythig by the 'Phonics, but live stuff is hard to come by as the Word Gets Around forum seems to be closed. I have a couple of gigs which I will upload in future, but decided to do this one first as never seen it anywhere else. I found this on soulseek in flac form ages ago, and converted it to mp3. Sound quality is excellent, think this may have been an official broadcast although not sure. Link and artwork are my own.

The Real People - 1998 Demos

This excellent collection of demos is just one of the many I own, more of which will be posted in future. However this is probably my favourite collection of demos, up there with '97 (already posted) and '99 (will be posted in future!). Had this for a long time and listened to it many times, and I'm confident that had these songs been officially released as an album it would be up there with my all-time favourites. Sound quality is pretty good, better than the 1997 demos. Strongly recommended to anyone. Link and artwork are my own.

Paul Weller - 1996-08-18 - Live At V96

This is an excellent Weller gig from 1996, at the very first V Festival. The setlist is 20-odd songs featuring guest appearances from both Noel Gallagher and Ocean Colour Scene. This, for me, is right when Paul was at the height of his powers and as a result this is pretty much my dream Weller setlist! I originally got this from the ridiculously good Paul's Bootique blog, although uploaded my own link. The excellent artwork you see above is by Marco, although I chopped it down a bit to stick on iTunes. Sound quality here is pretty good, no complaints. Definitely worth a download for fans of Weller's mid-90s output.

Arctic Monkeys - 2011-08-06 - Live At The House Of Blues, Chicago

This is a recent Arctic Monkeys gig, which I've already uploaded on Pick A Part That's New alongside a few other recent gigs. Thought I would post it here though as this blog gets more exposure and also because I'm away for the weekend and wanted to post something before I go. Still, this is an excellent gig with very good sound quality, and shouldn't disappoint any serious fan of the band. Artwork and link are my own.

Another Viva Brother boot, they seem to be pretty despised but I'm a fan, so it's here if anyone wants it. I ripped this from videos on the band's official Youtube channel, so the sound quality here is excellent. Slightly longer setlist than the gig already posted as well. RPA And The United Nations Of Sound - 2010-06-05 - Live In Ancona

This is a gig from last year that Richard Ashcroft did with his ill-fated United Nations Of Sound project. However, this setlist includes a decent number of Verve and solo classics, which in my opinion makes it worth downloading. The only real downsides are the quality of some of his newer songs and the overblown drum sound heard on a couple of songs. Sound quality here is very good. The artwork and link are my own.

Heavy Stereo - B-Sides and Singles

Another Heavy Stereo post, and unless any live shows surface it'll be the last: if you own this and Deja Voodoo (I posted that a few months back) you own everything the band has ever done, apart from their Jam cover (The Gift) which featured on a Jam tribute album. This is comprised of two non-album singles (Sleep Freak and Smiler), their B-sides and the B-sides to their album singles as well. Got this compilation a while ago but can't remember where from, think it may have been the sadly deceased ABC Afterglow blog. Anyway I made this artwork to accompany it and hosted my own link, so enjoy!

Oasis - Be Here Now - The Complete Acoustic Collection

Apologies for the lack of posts on this blog recently, but hopefuly this can go some way towards making up for it. I must admit this blog is starting to look strinkingly similar to Jim's excellent Rkid blog, but in my defence I have been working on putting this together for the past few days and would be a waste not to post it! Anyway, this is a complete (or as near to complete as anyone could want!) record of all the acoustic sessions and live performances done by Oasis in the Be Here Now era of 1997-98.  Unsurprisingly the vast majority of these are sung my Noel; there is only one Liam sung track although it is the excellent 'Live By The Pool' version of Stand By Me. There are too many excellent performances of classics on here to pick highlights, but one thing I would say is this is not for the casual fan due to the sheer volume of music and multiple versions of several tracks. For anyone else though, this should be a very worthwhile download.

Proud Mary - Raise A Glass (Live, Demos And Rarities)

CARNIVAL OF LIGHT ORIGINAL
Proud Mary are a band that were formed in the late 90s in Manchester, and are notable for being the first band signed to Noel Gallagher's record label, Sour Mash. They have only released 3 albums in the last 10 years, so decided to take matters into my own hands and collect everything else I could find and turn it into a compilation. I called it Raise A Glass after a line from their cover of The Stones' Salt Of The Earth. Artwork was also made by me. If you like Proud Mary, check out my friend Jim's excellent blog at http://proudmaryband.blogspot.com/

Sound quality here is decent, loud shouting between songs but ok during them. Kasabian - 2011-06-18 - Live At The Hurricane Festival

Apologies for the huge delay between posts, been on holiday and my laptop has recently broken again so only just getting all my stuff back together.  Also been concentrating more on Pick A Part That's New in the last few days. Anyway, this is another recent Kasabian show, this one from the Hurricane Festival which I think is held in Germany. Beady Eye - 2011-04-03 - Live At The Brixton Academy

This is the 2nd Beady Eye post from me, and also the second Beady Eye gig I attended. This was at the Brixton Academy Japan Benefit gig (Paul Weller's performance from the night has already been uploaded here), which was broadcast on XFM. As a result, the sound quality is excellent. This is a slightly shorter setlist than Beady Eye have been playing, as time was limited due to all the other bands. It is notable for being the first, and to date the only time that the band have played their cover of Across The Universe. The artwork is by Small Faces so credit goes to him for that! The Seahorses - B-Sides

The Seahorses were formed in the mid-90s by John Squire, after he left the Stone Roses. They recoded two albums, one of which was released and one which wasn't (this was posted here a few months back). They also released four singles; the B-sides from the three released album tracks, as well as the non-album single You Can Talk To Me and its B-sides make up this compilation. Not had a chance to listen to this yet, but I am a big fan of their two albums, so I have high hopes for this unofficial collection (tagged it as a rarity as all the songs were officially released). I knocked this artwork up in a couple of minutes to accompany this download.

Kasabian - Saracuse Demos

Firstly, apologies for the lack of posts over the past week or so. My computer has again broken, and I am currently waiting for it to be returned from PC world. This is pretty awful timing as I'm going on holiday for 3 weeks on Saturday, and as a result haven't been able to stockpile any posts for when I'm away. If I get my computer back tomorrow I may be able to create a few, but don't expect many posts over the coming weeks. ANYWAY... This rare collection of demos dates from 1999, when Kasabian were still called Saracuse (hence the name). Not been able to properly listen to this yet, but it is (as far as I'm aware) the only collection of Kasabian demos in circulation, and as a result will probably be of interest to fans of the band. From what I've heard of this the sound is quite different from their debut album, released a few years after these demos were recorded. I made this artwork as I couldn't find any. Link is my own.

Babyshambles - Rare Live Tracks

Babyshmables are a band from England who are fronted by Pete Doherty. They have released 2 albums and a third has supposedly been imminent for about two years now, not sure it will ever come out to be honest. I compiled this a few years ago when they started playing new tracks live; it was originally intended to consist of just the new songs, but some live covers crept in and the result is this compilation. I ripped all the audio from various Youtube videos, so the sound quality varies; it is admittedly quite poor on a couple of tracks. None of it is totally unlistenable though. I've never seen another bootleg containing the newer songs played, and not sure if any of the covers included here have been included on a bootleg either, so I would strongly recommend this to any Babyshambles fan. I made this artwork to accompany the download, which I'm quite happy with.

Kula Shaker - 1997-06-26 - Live At The Roskilde Festival

Kula Shaker were one of the most critically savaged bands of the Britpop era, which may admittedly have been  due to the singer's infamous swastika comments. However, in my opinion they had some great tunes. In fact, they reformed in 2006 and have since released 2 albums, both of which are excellent; I recommend checking out Pilgrims Progress, released last year. This bootleg was recorded at the Roskilde Festival in Denmark, and was probably about the time when when the band were at their commercial peak. The sound quality here is excellent, almost certain this is a soundboard recording. Highlights of this 14-song setlist include 303, Hey Dude and the non-album single, Hush. This is definitely worth a download for fans of the band.

Whiteout - Bite It

Whiteout were a Scottish band who formed in the early 90s in Greenock and released two albums; Wikipedia says they split shortly after the release of their second album (which will be posted in future as it is extremely rare) in 1998. The band's only real claim to fame is touring with Oasis just before the latter band became massive; Whiteout started the tour as headlining act but after the first night were demoted to 2nd on the bill, and rightly so! That said, Whiteout were still a good band with some excellent tunes, and this album is actually very good. Their sound is best compared to mid-90s Charlatans, although they have a more laid-back vibe. Highlights from this album include Thirty Eight, No Time and Altogether. This is recommended to fans of the Charlatans' mid 90s work, curious Oasis fans and those who enjoyed The Gyres album posted previously.

The Stone Roses - 1990-06-09 - Live On Glasgow Green

This, along with the previously posted Blakpool gig, is regarded as one of the best Stone Roses gigs of all time. It was held in a specially erected tent on Glasgow Green, hence the name, and apparently the sweat was raining off the ceiling! It is notable for several reasons: for being the band's last gig for over 4 years, for being Reni's last performance with the band, and just for being a bloody good gig. The setlist is excellent; it basically consists of most of the songs that were played at their 1989 gigs, plus the excellent Fool's Gold and One Love. Sound quality is pretty good, not soundboard but good audience recording, and the band sound on great form. This is strongly recommended to all Stone Roses fans; if you enjoyed the Blackpool gig I posted before this should be right up your street. Only negative is that some of the songs are contained within the same track, although if you have an MP3 splitter this can be sorted should you so desire. Link is my own.

Noel Gallagher - 2006-11-28 - Live At The Cabaret Sauvage

As most of you will by now be aware, Noel Gallagher today announced both his first and second solo albums at a press conference in London; all details are available on his new website: http://www.noelgallagher.com. Very exciting news! There is a huge buzz about it at the moment, and I felt it wouldn't be acceptable to post anything wasn't Noel today, so here is an excellent semi-acoustic gig from 2006. The gig is from when Noel was promoting the Stop The Clocks compilation by doing smaller acoustic gigs with Gem Archer and Terry Kirkbride, and as a result crowd noise from this gig is minimal. The sound quality is also excellent as I believe the gig was professionally recorded. The 13 song setlist contains lots of early material, including B-sides, as well as a rare cover of the Beatles' Strawberry Fields Forever. This gig is definitely worth a download to hear acoustic, Noel-sung versions of well-known and of course the Beatles cover.
